Tuk-tuks in Cambodia: apps, prices and day hire
In Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and the other towns, book a tuk-tuk on Grab, PassApp or TADA: the app shows the fare before you ride, and travellers in 2026 report about USD 1 for a short trip across town. Hailed in the street, agree the price first. For the temples, drivers charge about USD 30 for a full day around Angkor, travellers report. To the airports, a car is usual: about USD 10 to 20 from Techo (KTI), more from Siem Reap (SAI).

Apps, street tuk-tuks and what they cost
Two kinds of tuk-tuk
Two vehicles share the name in Cambodia: the remork, a covered passenger carriage hitched to a motorbike, and the smaller three-wheel auto-rickshaw, which most ride apps send. Travellers in 2025 and 2026 notice the classic remork getting rarer in Phnom Penh as the apps spread.
Book with an app
The apps show the price before you confirm, so there is nothing to bargain over. Travellers in 2025 and 2026 report:
- Grab works in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and at both main airports, takes foreign bank cards and needs no Cambodian phone number.
- PassApp is often cheaper for tuk-tuks, by about 30 to 40% in one December 2025 report, but you pay the driver in cash or by QR code.
- TADA uses electric tuk-tuks and is cheaper with its vouchers, but has fewer drivers, so the wait can be longer.
- WowNow is one of the apps Techo airport lists for rides into Phnom Penh.
A short ride across town costs about USD 1 by app, travellers report. On a busy evening the price rises with demand.
Street tuk-tuks
Drivers wait outside hotels, markets and bus offices. Agree the price, the destination and whether it is per person or for the vehicle before you set off; showing the driver the app's price is a fair starting point.
Airport rides
The airports are well out of town, so most people take a car:
- Techo (KTI), Phnom Penh: about USD 10 to 20 per car by the airport's figures, close to an hour; the Airport Express bus is the cheap option. See the Phnom Penh airport guide.
- Siem Reap Angkor (SAI): about USD 25 to 30 by car, travellers report, or the USD 8 shuttle bus. See the Siem Reap airport guide.
Travellers who have taken a tuk-tuk on the Siem Reap airport road describe a slow, exposed hour on a busy highway; with luggage, a car is the better choice.

Paying, finding your driver and day hire
Paying
US dollars and riel are both used, and small notes help, as drivers rarely have change for big bills. Travellers report paying at about 4,000 riel to the dollar. The Bakong Tourists app lets visitors pay by QR code from a foreign card, which works for PassApp rides and many small shops.
Finding your driver
The apps describe the vehicle, but many look alike. On Grab, the ID shown in the app should match the licence plate; PassApp tuk-tuks carry a sticker with their ID on the windscreen and the back, travellers report.
A day around Angkor
For the temples, many visitors hire a tuk-tuk and driver for the day: about USD 30 for a full day, travellers report in August 2026, going to as many temples as you want. The park is about 10 km from town, and the small circuit alone is roughly a half-marathon long, so walking it is not realistic. Agree the route, the start time (sunrise means leaving before 05:00) and the price the evening before. You still need your own Angkor pass.
If your driver takes you to a shop you did not ask for, say no politely and repeat where you want to go.

Between towns
Tuk-tuks are for getting around town, not between cities. For journeys between towns, see the bus, train and ferry guides; the airport guides cover the ride from each airport.
