Unless your passport is visa-exempt, mainly the nine ASEAN countries, you need a visa. The official tourist e-visa costs USD 30 plus a service fee on evisa.gov.kh, takes three business days and allows a one-month stay; it works at the three international airports and at the Bavet and Trapeang Kriel land borders. A visa on arrival is also issued at airports and land borders: no official fee is published, and travellers in 2026 report paying USD 30. Every air passenger also files the free e-Arrival form within seven days before arrival.

Who needs a visa

Cambodia's official e-visa site lists nine visa-exempt countries, all in ASEAN. Cambodia's embassy in Berlin gives the length of each exemption for ordinary passports, and its table (as of 25 September 2026) also includes the Maldives and Seychelles:

Stay without a visaOrdinary passports from
30 daysIndonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Maldives, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam
15 daysSeychelles
14 daysBrunei, Myanmar, Thailand

Several other countries, Hong Kong SAR and China among them, are exempt only on diplomatic or official passports, so ordinary passport holders from those places need a visa. A temporary 14-day exemption for passports of the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong and Macao included, ran from 15 June to 15 October 2026 and has ended.

Everyone else needs a visa, including holders of US, UK, Australian and Indian passports. Your passport must have more than six months left on the day you arrive and, the US State Department adds, one blank page for the entry stamp. The rules follow your passport, not the language you read this in.

You need a digital passport photo (JPEG or PNG) and a Visa or Mastercard. The approval arrives by email or from "Check & Change" on the site; since 1 August 2026 it carries a QR code instead of a barcode. The UK government advises applying at least four days ahead.

Validity is not your stay. "Valid for 3 months" is the window in which you must arrive; from the day you enter, you may stay one month. The UK government says a tourist visa can be extended inside Cambodia, and that overstaying leads to fines with no upper limit, detention or deportation.

Visa on arrival

If you do not have an e-visa, the UK government's travel advice says you can get a visa on arrival at airports and land border crossings: bring a passport photo and pay in US dollars. Cambodia's official sites publish no fee for it; travellers in 2026 report paying USD 30. It is the only option at land crossings that do not take the e-visa.

At Techo airport in January 2026, travellers report paying by card and not being asked for a photo; carry one and US dollars in cash anyway, especially at land borders. Arriving visitors now receive a v-Pass by email instead of an ink stamp, by Cambodia's e-Arrival portal.

Where the e-visa works

The e-visa is accepted for entry at:

  • Airports: Techo International (KTI) in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap Angkor International (SAI) and Sihanoukville International (KOS), not by cruise ship.
  • Land borders: Bavet, from Mộc Bài in Vietnam, and Trapeang Kriel, from Nongnokkhene in Laos.

Cham Yeam and Poipet, on the Thai border, are closed to e-visa entry until further notice, and the other land crossings, including Prek Chak near Hà Tiên and the Mekong crossings near Châu Đốc, do not take it.

The ministry's table is about the e-visa only, not about whether a border is open: the land border with Thailand is closed to travellers for other reasons, explained in the Cambodia–Thailand border guide.

The e-Arrival form

The e-Arrival form is a free online arrival card, not a visa. Cambodia's e-visa site asks every traveller, visa holders included, to submit it within seven days before arrival; the UK government says it applies to arrivals by air at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. Submit it at arrival.gov.kh.

At Techo airport, eligible passports can use the automated Smart Gate; that list is about the gates, not about who needs a visa.

Cambodia visa: what people ask

Do I need a visa for Cambodia?

Yes, unless your passport is from an exempt country. On ordinary passports, Cambodia's embassy in Berlin lists 30 days for Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam, 14 days for Brunei, Myanmar and Thailand, 30 days for the Maldives and 15 days for Seychelles. US, UK, Australian, Indian, Chinese and Hong Kong passport holders need a visa.

How much is the Cambodia e-visa?

USD 30 for the tourist e-visa (type T), plus a service fee, on the official site evisa.gov.kh or its app. The business e-visa (type E) costs USD 35. Both are single entry, valid three months from issue, for a stay of one month.

Can I get a visa on arrival in Cambodia?

Yes. The UK government's travel advice says a visa on arrival is issued at airports and land border crossings, with a photo, paid in US dollars. Cambodia's official sites publish no fee for it; travellers in 2026 report paying USD 30, so bring US dollars in cash, especially at land borders.

How long does the Cambodia e-visa take?

Three business days, by the official site. The UK government advises applying at least four days before you travel.

What is the Cambodia e-Arrival form?

A free online arrival card, separate from the visa. Cambodia's official sites ask every traveller, visa holders included, to submit it within seven days before arrival; the UK government says it applies to arrivals by air at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.

Which borders accept the Cambodia e-visa?

Techo (Phnom Penh), Siem Reap Angkor and Sihanoukville airports (not cruise ships), and two land borders: Bavet from Vietnam and Trapeang Kriel from Laos. Cham Yeam and Poipet on the Thai border are closed for e-visa entry, and the other land crossings do not take it.

Is the visa on evisa.gov.kh the official one?

Yes: evisa.gov.kh is run by Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and it has an official app. Other websites selling Cambodian visas are not run by the ministry, so apply on evisa.gov.kh to pay the official fee.
