Arriving by bus, train or air

From Phnom Penh. About 3 to 4 hours by bus on the expressway, about USD 18 with Giant Ibis or a Larryta sleeper, or 6 hours 36 minutes by train at 07:00 for USD 12, for October 2026. See Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville.

From Siem Reap. Giant Ibis's night bus leaves Siem Reap at 22:00 and arrives at about 08:00, in time for a morning boat; KOS also lists flights from Siem Reap. See the Siem Reap guide.

From Vietnam. Minivans from Hà Tiên cross at Prek Chak to Kampot and Kep, about two hours, and carry on to the coast from there. Cambodia's e-visa is not accepted at Prek Chak; the Cambodia–Vietnam border guide explains what to do instead.

By air. Flights land at Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS); see the airport section below.

Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS)

Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS) is 20 km south-east of the city centre, next to Ream. The airport lists flights to Siem Reap, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur and Wuxi; not every route flies daily, so check the days before you plan around one.

Taxi. Two taxi associations wait just outside the terminal, both from about USD 15 by the airport's figures: the Friendship Taxi Association, with a green label, and the Tourist Small Car Association, with a yellow line on the car. The airport names no bus or shuttle into town.

Grab. Travellers in 2026 report that Grab drivers are not allowed to pick up at the terminal, so you walk out to meet them at the airport gate, about 100 m away.

Straight to the islands. The ferries leave from the Autonomous Port in town. If you land in the afternoon, leave a good margin before the last boat, or stay a night and cross in the morning.
