Cambodia ferries: Koh Rong, Koh Rong Samloem and the river boats

From Sihanoukville's Autonomous Port they take 45 to 50 minutes, from USD 17 one way, with Island Speed Ferry at 08:00, 09:00, 12:00 and 15:00 and other companies through the day, for October 2026. From Kampot, morning boats take 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. For Thailand you fly, as the land border is closed; Phu Quoc in Vietnam is reached via Hà Tiên.

From Kampot
Speed ferries leave the Kampot International Tourism Port, a 10 to 15 minute tuk-tuk ride from town (no bus runs there): Vireak Buntham at 08:30, about 1 hour 30 minutes to Koh Rong Samloem and 2 hours to Koh Rong, back at 15:30; GTVC at 09:30, about 2 hours 15 minutes to Koh Rong, from USD 16 sold online for October 2026. Back to the mainland, and between the islands
- Koh Rong to Sihanoukville: Island Speed Ferry leaves Koh Toch at 09:21, 10:21, 13:21 and 16:21, about 54 minutes; GTVC leaves Sok San at 11:30.
- Koh Rong Samloem to Sihanoukville: Island Speed Ferry at 09:00, 10:00, 13:00 and 16:00, about 1 hour 15 minutes.
- Koh Rong to Koh Rong Samloem: a small inter-island boat leaves Long Set Pier at 10:15 and Koh Toch at 10:30, 45 minutes to 1 hour, USD 10 sold online.
Each island has several landing points. On Koh Rong, Koh Toch is the main village, with Long Set Beach and Sok San Beach elsewhere; on Koh Rong Samloem, boats call at different bays, Saracen Bay being the main one. Book the boat that lands nearest where you are staying: see the Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem guides.
River boats
- Phnom Penh ⇄ Siem Reap: Cambodia River Express has sailed across the Tonle Sap at weekends while the water is high, 6 to 7 hours; no dated sailing was on sale for October 2026, so confirm with the operator. See Phnom Penh to Siem Reap.
- Siem Reap ⇄ Battambang: agencies advertise a boat, but none was on sale for the October 2026 dates checked; see Siem Reap to Battambang.
- Phnom Penh ⇄ Châu Đốc (Vietnam): Hang Chau's own site says its speedboat runs daily on the Mekong, about 6 hours, through the Kaoam Samnor–Vĩnh Xương crossing. It was not on sale online; book with the operator, and check the visa rules for that crossing in the Cambodia–Vietnam border guide.

Tickets, luggage, weather and connections
One way or return
Island Speed Ferry sells USD 17 one way and USD 30 for a return, for October 2026. A return is only valid with the company that sold it and from its own pier, so check the return conditions printed on the ticket before you pay.
Check-in, luggage and changes
Island Speed Ferry asks you to check in 30 minutes before departure; boarding closes 10 minutes before. Each passenger may take one carry-on and one checked bag up to 20 kg; bigger or heavier bags can cost extra.
Its own tickets can be cancelled more than 24 hours ahead for a partial refund, less an admin fee; within 24 hours there is no refund or change. Tickets from other companies or booking sites follow their own terms.
Weather
Rough seas can cancel sailings, most often in the rainy season. When Island Speed Ferry cancels for weather, safety or a breakdown, it offers a new date or a full refund. Leave a spare day before an international flight.
Making the connection
- From Phnom Penh: Giant Ibis's 07:45 bus reaches Sihanoukville at about 10:45, in time for the 12:00 or 15:00 boat; the 07:00 train arrives at 13:36, in time for the 15:00. See Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville.
- From Sihanoukville airport (KOS): the airport is 20 km from the port; after an afternoon landing, the last boats can be tight, so consider a night in town. See the Sihanoukville guide.
- From Siem Reap or Battambang: night buses reach Sihanoukville at about 07:00 to 08:00, in time for a morning boat.
