The train also stops at Pursat and Moung Russey. By road, the same trip takes 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours; the train is slower but has no traffic. The Battambang guide covers the station and the buses.

Where the train does not go

There is no train to Siem Reap: the northern line ends at Battambang, so take the bus or fly from Phnom Penh (Phnom Penh to Siem Reap). No train to Poipet or across the Thai border was on sale for October 2026, and Cambodia has no railway to Vietnam: buses cross the border instead (Cambodia–Vietnam border guide).

Tickets, stations and what to expect

Buying a ticket

Royal Railway sells tickets on its booking site, royalrailway.easybook.com, and takes bookings by phone during working hours, 06:00 to 20:00. The e-ticket arrives by email; you can show it on your phone as long as every page is visible, and you go straight to your coach without stopping at the counter.

Tickets bought online cannot be changed or refunded. The railway warns that weekends and Cambodian holidays can sell out, so book a few days ahead for those dates. Some dates show as "pre-book" before the railway releases them: the order is placed and confirmed once seats go on sale.

Stations

  • Phnom Penh: the central station on Russian Federation Boulevard, Sras Chork, Daun Penh. The Airport Express bus from Techo airport (KTI) stops at Canadia Garden in front of it; see the Phnom Penh airport guide.
  • Kep: the booking site calls it Sangkat Prey Thum station.
  • Kampot and Sihanoukville: the railway gives the station names but no street address, so show the driver the station name.
  • Battambang: on National Road 5 in Svay Pao.

Tuk-tuks wait at the stations for arriving trains; the tuk-tuk guide explains apps and agreed fares.

On board

The booking site sells one class, called Seat, on the dates checked. It publishes no luggage allowance, so if you carry a bicycle or anything bulky, ask the railway when you book; it also offers private and group trains on request.
