## Arriving by bus, train or air

**From Phnom Penh.** About 3 to 4 hours by bus on the expressway, about USD 18 with Giant Ibis or a Larryta sleeper, or 6 hours 36 minutes by train at 07:00 for USD 12, for October 2026. See [Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville](/phnom-penh-to-sihanoukville/).

**From Kampot.** The train leaves Kampot at 11:15 and reaches Sihanoukville at 13:49, USD 7; vans take about 2 hours 30 minutes from about USD 10 sold online for October 2026. See the [Kampot guide](/kampot/).

**From Siem Reap.** Giant Ibis's night bus leaves Siem Reap at 22:00 and arrives at about 08:00, in time for a morning boat; KOS also lists flights from Siem Reap. See the [Siem Reap guide](/siem-reap/).

**From Vietnam.** Minivans from Hà Tiên cross at Prek Chak to Kampot and Kep, about two hours, and carry on to the coast from there. Cambodia's e-visa is not accepted at Prek Chak; the [Cambodia–Vietnam border guide](/cambodia-vietnam-border/) explains what to do instead.

**By air.** Flights land at **Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS)**; see the airport section below.

## Leaving Sihanoukville: islands, buses and the train

**To Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem.** Island Speed Ferry leaves the Autonomous Port at 08:00, 09:00, 12:00 and 15:00: about 47 minutes to Koh Toch on Koh Rong and 48 to 49 minutes to Koh Rong Samloem, USD 17 one way or USD 30 return, for October 2026. See [Sihanoukville to Koh Rong](/sihanoukville-to-koh-rong/), the [Koh Rong Samloem guide](/koh-rong-samloem/) and the [ferry guide](/ferry/).

**To Phnom Penh.** Giant Ibis at 13:30 and 19:00, about 3 hours and USD 18, or the train at 14:00, arriving 20:36, USD 12. [Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville](/phnom-penh-to-sihanoukville/) covers both directions.

**To Kampot and Kep.** The 14:00 train reaches Kampot at 16:12 for USD 7; vans and buses take about 2 hours 30 minutes from about USD 10. See the [Kampot guide](/kampot/).

**To Siem Reap.** Giant Ibis's night bus leaves at 19:00, or fly from KOS. See the [Siem Reap guide](/siem-reap/).

**To Vietnam and Phu Quoc.** Go via Kampot to the Prek Chak–Hà Tiên crossing; from Hà Tiên, ferries run to Phu Quoc. VietnamTransportGuide's [Phu Quoc guide](https://vietnamtransportguide.com/phu-quoc/) covers the Vietnamese side, and our [Cambodia–Vietnam border guide](/cambodia-vietnam-border/) covers the crossing.

**To Thailand.** Land crossings between Cambodia and Thailand are suspended, including the coastal crossing near Koh Kong; the [Cambodia–Thailand border guide](/cambodia-thailand-border/) has the current position.

**Around town.** For tuk-tuks, remorks and ride apps, see the [tuk-tuk guide](/tuk-tuk/).

## Getting to Sihanoukville: what people ask

### Where do the ferries to Koh Rong leave from in Sihanoukville?

Island Speed Ferry checks in at its main office at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, next to the Giant Ibis bus office. Other ferry companies may board elsewhere, so go where your ticket says, 30 minutes before departure.

### How far is Sihanoukville airport from the city?

20 km south-east of the city centre, next to Ream. Airport taxis cost from about USD 15 by the airport's figures; there is no airport bus.

### Can I go straight from Sihanoukville airport to the Koh Rong ferry?

Yes, by taxi or Grab to the Autonomous Port. Leave a good margin before your boat: flights can land late, and check-in closes before departure. With an afternoon landing, a night in town and a morning ferry is the safer plan.

### Is the train or the bus better from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville?

The bus is faster, about 3 to 4 hours for about USD 18. The train takes 6 hours 36 minutes for USD 12, once a day at 07:00, and runs through Takeo and Kampot.

### How do I get from Sihanoukville to Siem Reap?

By Giant Ibis night bus at 19:00, arriving the next morning, or by flying from KOS, which lists flights to Siem Reap.

### How do I get from Sihanoukville to Kampot?

By the 14:00 train, 2 hours 12 minutes for USD 7, or by van or bus in about 2 hours 30 minutes from about USD 10, sold online for October 2026.
