## Arriving by air or bus

**By air.** Flights land at **Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI)**, well outside town; see the airport section below and the [Siem Reap airport guide](/siem-reap-airport/).

**From Phnom Penh.** About 6 hours by bus, day or overnight, from about USD 9 sold online for October 2026; see [Phnom Penh to Siem Reap](/phnom-penh-to-siem-reap/).

The [Cambodia–Thailand border guide](/cambodia-thailand-border/) has the current position.

**From Laos.** Buses and vans run down from Pakse and the 4,000 Islands, changing vehicles at the border; see the [Cambodia–Laos border guide](/cambodia-laos-border/).

## Leaving Siem Reap: buses, flights and the borders

**To Phnom Penh.** Giant Ibis by day at 08:45, 09:45 and 12:30 and by night at 22:00 and 22:30, plus Larryta and others; about 6 hours, with Giant Ibis at about USD 19 sold online for October 2026. [Phnom Penh to Siem Reap](/phnom-penh-to-siem-reap/) covers both directions. A seasonal tourist boat, Cambodia River Express, has run between the two cities across the Tonle Sap lake at weekends when the water is high; confirm the next sailing with the operator before you plan around it.

**To Battambang.** Giant Ibis at 08:30 and 13:30, about 3 hours, for about USD 12 sold online for October 2026; vans from about USD 8. See [Siem Reap to Battambang](/siem-reap-to-battambang/).

**To the coast.** Giant Ibis runs a night bus to Sihanoukville at 22:00, arriving about 08:00, and a night bus to Kampot of about 11 hours. For the islands, carry on by ferry from Sihanoukville; see the [Sihanoukville guide](/sihanoukville/) and the [Kampot guide](/kampot/).

**To Vietnam.** Giant Ibis's night bus leaves at 22:00 for Ho Chi Minh City, about 12 hours by its timetable, crossing at Bavet; for October 2026 buses were on sale from about USD 41, and flights from about USD 136. The [Cambodia–Vietnam border guide](/cambodia-vietnam-border/) covers visas and the crossing, and VietnamTransportGuide's [Vietnam–Cambodia border page](https://vietnamtransportguide.com/vietnam-cambodia-border/) picks up on the Vietnamese side.

**To Laos.** Buses and vans leave at about 08:00 for Pakse, about 10 hours with a change of vehicle at the Nongnokkhene border, from about USD 39 sold online for October 2026. Travellers in 2025 and 2026 describe the crossing as straightforward. Check Lao visa rules before you go; LaosBusTickets' [Pakse page](https://laosbustickets.com/pakse-bus-tickets/) covers onward buses in Laos.

**To Thailand.** Fly: Bangkok is about 1 hour 10 minutes from SAI, from about USD 111 sold online for October 2026. No buses to Bangkok were on sale, because the land border is suspended.

**To Angkor and around town.** Tuk-tuks, remorks and cars wait across town; the [Angkor Wat guide](/angkor-wat/) covers tickets and getting to the temples, and the [tuk-tuk guide](/tuk-tuk/) covers tuk-tuks and ride apps.
