## Arriving by bus, van or train

**From Phnom Penh by road.** Battambang is 288 km up National Road 5. Giant Ibis leaves at 08:45 by its timetable and takes about 4 hours 30 minutes; Larryta vans take 4 hours 30 minutes and buses from Capitol, Cambolink21, Virak Buntham and others about 5 hours. All sell from about USD 10 online for October 2026. Vans usually end at their own offices or Boeng Chhuk bus station, so check where your ticket stops.

**From Phnom Penh by train.** Royal Railway's northern line runs once a day: 06:40 from Phnom Penh station, 13:38 at Battambang, USD 10, on every date checked for October 2026. It is about two hours slower than the bus, with no road traffic and room to move. See the [train guide](/train/).

**From Siem Reap.** Giant Ibis leaves at 08:30 and 13:30 and takes about 3 hours, about USD 12; vans cost from about USD 8. See [Siem Reap to Battambang](/siem-reap-to-battambang/).

**By boat.** Tour agencies advertise a boat across the Tonle Sap from Siem Reap, but none was on sale for the October 2026 dates checked, and water levels decide whether it runs. Book it only with an operator who sells it for your date.

**By air.** Battambang has no scheduled flights. The nearest airports are Siem Reap–Angkor (SAI), about an hour beyond Siem Reap by road, and Phnom Penh's Techo airport (KTI); see the [Siem Reap airport guide](/siem-reap-airport/).

**From Thailand.** The land border at Poipet, the nearest crossing, is closed to travellers; see the [Cambodia–Thailand border guide](/cambodia-thailand-border/).

## Leaving Battambang: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and the coast

**To Phnom Penh.** Giant Ibis leaves at 08:45, about 4 hours 30 minutes; vans and buses run through the day from about USD 9 sold online for October 2026. The train leaves Battambang station at 15:00 and reaches Phnom Penh at 22:42, USD 10.

**To Siem Reap.** Giant Ibis leaves Road No. 3 at 08:30 and 13:30, about 3 hours, USD 12 for October 2026; vans from about USD 8, and a private car from about USD 68 for the vehicle. [Siem Reap to Battambang](/siem-reap-to-battambang/) covers both directions.

**To Sihanoukville and Koh Rong.** Virak Buntham runs night buses at 22:00 and 22:30, about 9 hours, arriving at about 07:00, USD 20 for October 2026. See the [Sihanoukville guide](/sihanoukville/) and [Sihanoukville to Koh Rong](/sihanoukville-to-koh-rong/).

**To Kampot.** Saly VIP's night sleepers leave at 22:45 and 23:25 and arrive at about 10:00, USD 22 for October 2026. The [Kampot guide](/kampot/) picks up from there.

**Around town.** Tuk-tuks wait at the bus terminals and the station. Battambang's bamboo train is a short sightseeing ride, not a way to travel between towns. The [tuk-tuk guide](/tuk-tuk/) covers apps and agreed fares.
